Horn of Oil

Follow Me

-Calling-

On the roads of Galilee you first notice, crushed wild sage underfoot. Dry, silvery, and resinous in the heat. Then, warm dust and sunbaked stone rising around leather sandals. A faint trace of last night’s cooking fire lingers in wool and hair, smoke softened by morning air. Finally, the quiet warmth of sun-touched skin as you walk beside him: steady presence, shared miles, and the long road unfolding ahead.

Scripture

Luke 5:1-11

Now while the multitude pressed on him and heard the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. He saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
Simon answered him, “Master, we worked all night and caught nothing; but at your word I will let down the net.”
When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking. They beckoned to their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. They came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord.” For he was amazed, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had caught; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid. From now on you will be catching people alive.”When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.

Reflection

Where are you in this moment?Perhaps you are by the water’s edge—nets in your hands, tired from a long night that yielded nothing. You have worked.
You have tried.
You have come up empty.
Then—He steps into your boat.
He asks you to go out again.
Something in you tells you to listen. You let down your nets. And suddenly—abundance.More than you can hold. You see, all at once,
that you are standing before something holy.
“Go away from me, Lord…”You feel the weight of it—who He is, and who you are.And yet—He does not go.He draws nearer.“Do not be afraid.”And then—He calls you.To follow. To leave everything behind:The boats.
The nets.
The certainty.
And you go.Where in your life has He stepped into the ordinary—into the work, the effort, the striving—and asked you to trust Him again?Where is He calling you to let go—
not because it has failed, but because He is leading you beyond it?
What might it look like to follow—
right in the moment you realize
who is standing before you?

Stay here a moment.Let the fragrance of calling
settle gently around you.
And when you rise,
it goes with you.
